DNA testing procedures in Tanzania.

Section 25(1) and (2) of the Human DNA Regulation Act No. 8 of 2009.

The analysis of a human DNA sample must commence with a formal application submitted by the requesting authority to either the Human DNA Laboratory within the Government Chemist Laboratory Agency or other specified DNA testing facilities.

Requesting authorities /  or people who may request DNA test as per Section  25(2) include the following;

(a) the court where the subject matter is in dispute between the parties;

(b) advocates of the court of law, Social Welfare and community development officers for law matters which are not in dispute;

(c) a Police Officer of or above the rank of inspector;

(d) research institutions that are mandated to conduct research in Human DNA;

(e) a District Commissioner in the case of a mass disaster; or

(f) medical practitioner for medical cases.
