Who is a kadhi?

The term "kadhi" refers to a Muslim priest, preacher, or leader within a Muslim community who has obtained the necessary authorization under the Law of Marriage Act [Cap 29 R:E 2019] to celebrate marriages in accordance with Islamic customs and practices.

A "kadhi's court" is a legal institution presided over by a kadhi, who is a Muslim priest or leader licensed under LMA. These courts typically handle matters related to Islamic law, including marriage, divorce, and other family-related issues, in accordance with Islamic customs and traditions. Kadhi's courts are often found in countries with significant Muslim populations and where Islamic law holds a special legal status for certain matters.
