Section 12 of the Law of Marriage Act [Cap 29 R:E 2019].
A marriage, whether it was contracted into Mainland Tanzania or in any other location, will remain legally valid under the laws of Mainland Tanzania until it is terminated by:
(a) The death of either party to the marriage;
(b) A court decree declaring that either party to the marriage is presumed to be deceased;
(c) A court decree of annulment;
(d) A court decree of divorce; or
(e) An extrajudicial divorce carried out outside Tanzania, provided that it is recognized in Tanzania in accordance with the provisions of section 92 of LMA.
