How does the law say if trial is continuing and there is a witness who cannot testify on that day?

If the trial is continuing and there is a witness who cannot testify on that day the proviso to rule,2 of Order XVII of Civil Procedure Act allows the court to adjourn the hearing to another day. The Court is however, required to record the reasons for adjournment, i.e. failure by witness to testify.
