The Commission for Human Rights and Good Governance is an Independent Department established under Article 129 of the Constitution of Tanzania. It is charged among others with the duty to promote Human Rights and Good Governance in Tanzania. Its functions are provided for under Article 130(1)(a)-(h) of the Constitution. Its function include:
1). To entertain allegations on violation of human rights;
2). To inquire into violation of human rights and good governance;
3). To research and disseminate education on human rights and good governance;
4). To advice the government on human rights and good governance; and
5). Where necessary, to institute proceedings with a view preventing violation of human rights and good governance.
