TYPES OF JURISDICTION.



Original Jurisdiction

Refers to powers of the court to entertain a case at first instance. It requires that, the case should be filed in the court of the lowest grade first and should the need arise move to the next court in the ladder.

Appellate Jurisdiction

Refers to the power of the court higher court in the ladder to deal with the case from a lower court sent to it by way of appeal.

Concurrent Jurisdiction

Refers to the powers vested to courts to try certain matters concurrently for example: in matters concerning to Customary and Islamic Law, a Primary Court has Concurrent jurisdiction with the High Court.

Revisional Jurisdiction

Comprises of powers of the Superior Court to call for the records of any Subordinate Court for the purpose of ascertaining regularity of proceeding, correctness, legality or propriety of Subordinate Court’s finding, sentence or order passed.
