The offence of Infanticide is governed by the provisions of section 199 of the Penal Code. Infanticide is the killing of a child under the age of twelve months by its mother. The mother is guilty of the offence of infanticide if it will be shown that the balance of her mind was disturbed because of the effects of the childbirth or lactation. The mother who is guilty of infanticide will be punished as if she had been guilty of the offence of manslaughter of such child.
