Autrevoir Acquit is governed by section 137 of Criminal Procedure Act. It is a plea in criminal case by which the accused claims that he was previously charged and acquitted by the court of competent jurisdiction. It is raised when the accused is charged subsequently with the offence for which he was previously acquitted. Thus, the plea if successful bars further proceedings in respect of the offence for which the accused was acquitted.
