A compellable witness is the one who is obliged to testify before the Court. It is the one who having been called upon to testify, must give his or her testimony, whereas; Competent witness is the one who in law may testify, i.e. is not obliged to testify.
Example: In criminal cases spouses are not obliged to testify against each other. As per chapter v of the Evidence Act, 1967.
